Randomness

We've been busy and as I was reminded today, in just about 6 weeks Carter will be 4 and all too soon Kennedy will be turning 2. Where does the time go? The kids are growing quickly, changing everyday and doing and saying funny things. I figured it was time to post some of those funnies before they are lost for good. My memory is not what it used to be!

Here they are in all their glory. They really do love one another but just like most siblings they can fight like crazy. Carter is a good big brother who generally likes to look out for his baby sis. He doesn't like it when she cries or fusses, mostly because it hurts his ears. Kennedy adores her big brother and wants to do everything that he does. She isn't afraid to fight for what she wants, either. A few weeks ago she and Carter were fighting over a toy and he used his strength to get it out of her grasp. In retaliation, Kennedy sunk her teeth into his back. Hard. Hard enough to leave a very big mark and bruise. I felt so sorry for him, but in the back of my mind I couldn't help but think of a little word named karma. Carter was a huge biter when he was little and this was just a bit of payback, I'd say.

Miss K attended her first princess party in January. Surprizingly, she didn't really love her costume but warmed up to the idea as the party went on. She is all girl in most respects. She loves to try on my shoes, carry purses over her arm and talk on the phone. She is also very dramatic. Cries for affect and will act coy when someone compliments her cuteness. It's as if she's thinking, "yes, I am cute, thank you." I am so thankful that God gave me both a son and a daughter. It's so fun to experience their differences.

As I have said numerous times, this little one is fearless. She loves to climb, jump, slide and run. Here she is perched in her little shopping cart...I was just waiting for it to tip over, but she managed a safe exit.

Oh Carter...what a difference a year makes. He has undergone a nearly complete personality shift during the past 12 months or so. Where he used to be timid, quiet and shy. He's now confident, LOUD, and all boy. Constantly running, jumping, shooting (he'll turn anything into a gun - from grilled cheese sandwiches to golf clubs) or yelling. He's always on the go and his energy never seems to wane. He continues to love school and has made lots of good friends. I often think that he's an old man trapped in a little person's body. He definitely has an older soul and some of the things that come out of his mouth are so mature. He's quick witted and can negotiate with the best of them. He certainly keeps us on our toes.

Here are some of the funnier things that he's said in recent weeks. If I don't write them down, I'm sure to forget them. I know that retelling these little tidbits won't be nearly as funny as hearing them first hand, but I'll record them for my sake, if nothing else.
*During preparation for his Christmas singing program, his teacher asked if he'd ever been in the big sanctuary at church. To this he replied, "Yep, when my sister got babytized"
*As we were driving to the store one afternoon, we had the best conversation. I'll paraphrase for journaling purposes. Basically Carter informed me that when he grew up he'd like to marry Kennedy. When I asked him why he would want to do that, he said "because she's the girl I love the most." How sweet is that?
*Again while driving, we were listening to the Christian radio station that is often on in the car. He asked about the music, the lyrics, wondered why we would sing about Jesus, etc. I tried to take advantage of the opportunity to teach him a little more about God and our faith. After a few seconds he pipes up, "I kind of love this Jesus music."
*The icing on the cake came last night as Kyle and I were both being super indecisive about where we wanted to eat. At first Carter said he wanted tacos but then changed his mind and said Red Robin. I asked him once, then twice, and probably a third time if he was absolutely positive that Red Robin is what he wanted. To which he replied, "I SAID (insert eye roll and exasperation) yes. Didn't you hear me the first time? Why don't you listen when I say yes. I want Red Robin." Wow, God help us when he hits the teen years!
