spring snow

The calendar may say spring, but our weather has been very winter like recently.  We woke up on Thursday morning to a couple inches of snow, although it had already started to melt, and a 2 hour late start at school.  And since Carter is in the morning kindergarten class, a 2 hour delay results in no school for him.  We've had four such days in March alone, he has barely gone to school this month!
As much as I love snow and appreciate it's beauty, I am so ready for spring.  I must admit, though, that this was some of the best snow we've had for playing in this winter.  The kids had a ball!

I was slightly concerned that I was going to be beaned by a snowball while I was trying to snap this picture!

Our friends had fun disk sleds and good drive ways to use as a hill.
It was a lot of fun watching the kids enjoy sledding.

The look of pure joy on her face says it all.

It was a great morning spent outside, enjoying the snow for (hopefully) the last time this winter and playing with friends.
Now, bring on the sun!

snow day

I am always up for snow...I love the white, clean look of it and I love to see the joy on my kids' faces as they run and play.  With that being said, I'm kind of over winter and am just counting the days until summer.  I'm ready for tank tops and flip flops and sundresses for Miss K.  I want to put away the wool and down and pull out the pastels.  God had other plans.  On Thursday morning (March 1st, which to me seems like it should be the start of spring) we woke up to an inch or two of snow...enough that school was 2 hours late, which meant no AM kindergarten and consequently no school for Carter.  He was a bit sick so he wouldn't have been able to go anyways, so I guess the snow was an added excuse to stay in pajamas all day.

Even under the weather, Carter had to bundle up and play outside for a few minutes.  Kyle thought I was crazy to let him go out in the snow with a fever, but I figured sometimes it's okay to break the rules.  And snow seemed like a good enough reason.

The snow was already starting to melt by the time the kids headed out after breakfast.  But they managed to roll a few starts to a snowman and toss a few snow balls.

Jake always has the most fun!  He's like a puppy again when it snows and I love seeing the friskiness and energy that he usually keeps under wraps.
Our neighbor, Olivia, came down for a bit.  Although by this point, Carter's energy was fading and he didn't last much longer.  I had promised hot cocoa, so it wasn't too hard to coax them back into the house.

A little snow ball fight to end our play time.
Sometimes I wonder about Carter's impulse control.  What started out innocently enough turned into Olivia getting snow down her coat and a wet boot.  I seem to be battling these type of choices with Carter a lot lately and I honestly don't know what else to do.  It seems like my words aren't doing a bit of good.  Any advice?

Snow Day

We woke up to snow on Wednesday morning and with no school to rush off to, we were able to head out and enjoy it after breakfast.  Unfortunately, by 7:00, it had already warmed up considerably and was raining.  The kids didn't seem to mind and had a blast.  I wish it would have stayed white and stuck around a bit longer.
Carter and Kennedy made a little snow seat.  I think it was supposed to be the bottom of a snowman, but this is as far as they got!

Can you tell how wet it was already?  There was more slush than snow.

Jake got in on the action and was running up and down the street, flinging snow with his nose.

Clearly we need to get Kennedy some new mittens...kind of hard to build snow balls when  your gloves are dangling of your hands!

Soaking wet but loving every minute of it!

snow!

We woke up on Thursday morning to a couple inches of snow. Certainly not the winter "storm" they were predicting, but enough to close schools and transform our street into a winter fun park! Everyone was out bright and early and the kids enjoyed playing in the snow for a few hours. I loved watching their joy and experiencing the fun through their eyes. I can remember how excited I was to have snow and still love how it makes everything look clean, white, beautiful and even a little magical.

Not happy about posing for a picture before running out to play.
Joy!
A little mischievous perhaps?

So much fun, Mom!

Starting to tucker out...playing in the snow is hard work!
